Bay Area EV Acceleration Plan Public Comment Period and Webinar

THURSDAY, APRIL 15 AT 11:00AM PTDear Bay Area Community, The Air District solicits public comments on a draft Bay Area Electric Vehicle (EV) Acceleration Plan and invites you to provide comments in writing or during our webinar on April 15, 2021, 11 AM – 12 PMPlease send your comments to climatetech@baaqmd.gov on or before April 28, 2021, at 4 PM.

California has set a goal of 5 million EVs sold by 2030 and conventional vehicles phased out by 2035, and the Air District has set a target of 90 percent of vehicles in the Bay Area being zero emissions by 2050. The Bay Area and California also share the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

In addition to alternative transit modes that include walking, biking, mass transit, and shared transportation, wide-scale adoption of EVs and electrification of all types of transportation are essential to achieving local, state, and federal emission reduction targets for greenhouse gases and criteria pollutants.

To this end, the Air District has released a draft of the Bay Area EV Acceleration Plan, which combines input from EV market stakeholders and experts, surveys of Bay Area residents, and input from the Bay Area EV Coordinating Council. The recommendations highlighted in the plan speak to the importance of addressing historic disenfranchisement in frontline communities as we pursue our aggressive EV adoption and market acceleration goals.

We welcome your comments and suggestions; please do not hesitate to reach out to us at climatetech@baaqmd.gov if you would like to discuss specific concerns or comments.
